First Climb in Okinawa

After waiting out the rain for what felt like an eternity we actually had a nice day today and we went for an awesome climb.  The climbing at Zatsun Tunnel is beautiful!  The rock is a wonderful texture and the view looks out over the ocean.  When we got there we parked across the street and climbed over the concrete road barrier onto a 2x6 piece of wood that was hovering (yes hovering) about 12 ft. over lots of fun, sharp shards of broken off rock just waiting to shred the unlucky person that was a little too trusting of that oh so wobbly piece of wood.   It was only supported by one end leaning against the concrete and the other on the ground on the opposite side.  I have no idea how it stayed stayed up there!  I actually tried not to look or think about it too much, just went.  When we got to the wall the sun was low in the sky and it looked like the tide was coming in and getting really close to where we'd be climbing.  We debated for about a millisecond and decided we could squeeze in one climb.  He went first and as always made it look like a breeze.  I was belaying and every so often getting showered by a wave that crashed against the rock just right.  Then it was my turn I did pretty good.  This climb was only about a 5.9 tops however, when I got to the roof/flake I realized how long it had been since my last climb and that yes I am still very afraid of heights.  I did make it all the way up but it was rough.  When I got down I was shaking, which hasn't happened in a while.  Lesson to self: don't wait so long between climbs.   So now the tide was really up and we had to go.  Before we left we wanted to check out the other side of the rock.  Well..to get to the other side of the rock we ended up jumping off the concrete barrier into a pile of sand I felt was way too far down.  But I lived.  Turns out there is even more beautiful climbing on that side of the wall YAY!  So now the fun part getting back up the wall we jumped down from.  The last obstacle before we took that 2 hour journey back home.  When I walked up to it my first thought was, "This is an exact replica of the Warped Wall off of Ninja Warrior."  It even had the crescent shape that curved over head.  Of course HE ran up the side grabbed the edge and pulled himself over first try.  Why does he have to make everything look so easy (sigh).  The way I got up was not so graceful, and as I whale flopped over the top there was a passing car (the only one in the past 20 min) that slowed just enough for the lady inside to give me a disapproving glare.  But I just so made it over that wall so heck ya!!
